Overview

Program Structure

Harvard Business School Online interviewed over 300 managers to determine what they want in online learning. This program reflects the managers' requests. We hope you find it valuable.

  • Check-in: When you check-in to the program, you will take a test and complete a self-assessment. The results suggest where to focus in the program.
  • Concepts: Concise, research-based concepts explore how to manage employees for high performance.
  • Case Study: In the safe environment of a case study, you play the role of a manager, make decisions, and determine the path and outcome of the case.
  • @Work: The @Work section, under the guidance of a mentor, allows you to practice on the job. Take time to thoughtfully complete the activities. This is how you will truly learn and develop new skills.
  • FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions provide concise answers to common questions and introduce additional concepts.
  • Practice: Practice provides online activities to reinforce your learning.
  • Check-out: When you check-out, you will take the test and self-assessment again. You can expect to increase your understanding of how to manage for performance by the end of the program. However, learning new skills takes time. While you will certainly gain self-awareness about how you manage and coach, it will take time and practice to turn new ideas into well-honed skills.
  • Next Steps: You will leave the program with objectives which you write in Next Steps. Your dedication and perseverance in continuing to practice new skills on the job will determine your success in improving your abilities.
  • Resources: Resources provides Harvard Business Review and other articles, as well as many tools, to support you on the job.
